County Council Meeting August 14th, 2001
Draft Meeting Minutes

1. Treasurer's Report - The balance as of 7/31/01 is $4,044.42.

2. Expenses for Gay Pride Parade - $373.34 is approved to be reimbursed to Karine and Magali for expenses incurred for the gay pride parade.

3. Future Expenditures - In the future no expenditures beyond $25.00 will be reimbursed without prior budget approval or a specific mandate from the county council.

4. Redistribution of Council Duties - Michele Delehanty has agreed to become the new membership coordinator.  Karine Megerdoomian accepts the position of interim assistant co-chair.  This is a temporary position to facilitate meetings while Lupita Jimenez is away from San Diego.

5. The Green Party of San Diego County Strategy Discussion

   A consensus long term goal or focus is elect officials with Green Values.  The discussion then focuses on what should be the focus between now and November of 2002.  The following list of items were suggested as foci/strategies to pursue:

-strengthen locals
-start new locals
-recruit active green volunteers
-paid volunteer coordinator
-open office/headquarters
-concentrate on fundraising
-register Greens
-community outreach
-issue campaigns
-have more activities
-candidate/volunteer training
-candidate campaigns
-doing less, but better

Michele Delehanty develops a mission statement that sums up the goals of the Green Party of San Diego County.  The statement is warmly received, and Michele agrees to "polish" it up and submit it for online approval/adoption.

Each person in attendance gets a chance to express their opinion on
strategy.

6. Adams Avenue Street Fair - There is discussion about whether to have a booth at the Adams Avenue Street Fair.  Consensus is reached that if a booth can be reserved for $100 or less that we will participate.

7. Fundraising and Volunteer Coordinator Plan Committee - This committee is formed with initial members including Magaili Offerman, Ron Schneider, Lupita Jimenez, and Karine Megerdoomian.

8. Michele Delehanty and Helen Quintana (of the Imperial County Greens) agree to become alternate representatives to the State Coordinating Committee.

9. Recognition of the Black Mountain Greens - There will be online discussion of this topic.  The primary concern is over the geographic boundaries of this local.

10. Power to the People Rally -  The Green Party of San Diego County endorses the Power to The People Rally organized by Global Exchange.

11. SDSU Citizen - The county council approves $250.00 to be given to the SDSU Greens to cover expenses in publishing one issue of the SDSU Citizen.

12. Next County Council Meeting - The next meeting is to be held September 11th in the community room of Mickie Adams' apartment building.
